Montessori Shared

Thank you to all who joined us for our 2017/18 Bring Your Parent to School Night. In each classroom, our students proudly walked their guests through a mini Montessori Work Cycle, providing time for families to engage with the beautiful materials used by our students at every program level. This is one of the most important nights here at Mill Falls because the evening is largely led by the children and it brings generations together to celebrate our public Montessori approach.

While everyone was in the house, we opened up the Fall Book Fair for an evening shop. A HUGE thank you to the Book Fair Team – Jen D., Gina, Alicia, Lisa, Mark B., Lauren D., and Jen H. You have worked so hard to make the Fair look great and you’ve made it so easy for the students to make great reading choices this fall.

The Spirit of Service

Earlier this week, the MFCS Foundation Board met for their fall planning meeting. There they discussed the School’s recent charter approval, general School updates, and elected this year’s officers. The MFCS Foundation Board is populated by citizen fundraisers – folks who believe deeply in our mission and enjoy the challenge of seeking needed funds to make up the difference between state funding for our charter school, and real programming costs. Please join us in thanking those on the Board, and recognizing the work of that team: Maria Law, Chair; Dave Sarvai, Vice Chair; Dan Calegari: Treasurer; Will Kanteres, Secretary; Rachel Marziano, Member.

If you missed the September Volunteer Trainings but would like to volunteer this year and have not attended a training in previous years, please send us an email. We will organize additional trainings based on interest.

If you’re not sure if you need to update your background check for this school year, please email Roxanne.

Running Fun!

Last Sunday we held our 2nd Annual Road Race & Fun Run. The weather was incredible, as was the effort by our runners and event planners. The result was a resounding success! Please join us in once again thanking MFCS mom, Amanda Gerardi, for her tireless and highly detailed work in creating the event.

All runners in the Fun Run were rewarded with ribbons, and our winning-most runners (children and adults) in the (nearly 5K) Road Race were rewarded with prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Our top three student runners were Elias, Lucas and Mia.

An event like this requires the participation and generosity of so many. Special thanks to both Scotts at BrandIt! for printing and donating our Race Day T-shirts. Shout out to Helen Davies and her team at SNHU for hosting the event and donating food and beverages.

Thanks to MFCS dad, Ryan Frew, for sponsoring the event and sharing his Jr. Monarch’s Team with us as a volunteer force. His players, along with members from the SNHU Women’s Lacrosse and Basketball Teams, provided a great group of young athletes to inspire and support us during the event.

Peace, Kindness & Race Day!
This week the world celebrated International Peace Day. Each year we mark this important day with an All-School Assembly and Peace Walk (photos below), following by other in-class activities. This allows us, as a community, to mark the day together and consider the meaning and importance of peace in our selves, our communities, and our world. This year we added something special – we joined hundreds of Montessori schools worldwide by registering to sing about peace. During the 24 hours of September 21, the song Sing Peace Around the World was literally sung by Montessori students and their teachers around the world. It was a lovely component to our own more local observance.

Friends with Focus!
Week two was full of good work, smiles, and plenty of fun! Students engaged in work cycles, practicing works from last year, and engaging in new lessons. Over 30 students participated in our Running Club – preparation and conditioning for our upcoming Road Race & Family Fun Run. Staff participated in our first Professional Development Program on Wednesday afternoon, working both on curricular development and training. On Thursday morning we hosted the NH Department of Education’s new Charter School Office Director, Dave Quigley, sharing our unique programming with him and helping familiarize him with the NH charter school model from our on-the-ground view. And on Thursday evening we welcomed our Parents & Guardians back to school with our Open House.

Welcome Back!

It has been a wonderful first week of the 2017/18 School Year! We welcomed back many old friends and met some new ones. Thanks again to all who joined us at last week’s Popsicle Party.
We want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to our families for the many generous donations of school and cleaning supplies. We so appreciate your kindness and generosity.
What, year 6 already? Yes! Just before the start of the school year, the NH Board of Education completed our Charter Renewal Process with a unanimous vote of approval for our schools continuation. We have been granted our second 5-year charter and look forward to the opportunity to continue to grow and enhance our public Montessori program.

Focus & Fun…
It was a great week at school – terrific focus and productivity during our work cycles. Our 4th Year Students conquered theNECAP Science Assessments – well done all! We also had a visit from Ruth, a Dental Hygienist from Dr. Evelyn Bryan’s office. Ruth spoke to the children about the importance of taking care of their teeth, linking it to their overall health. Thank you Ruth for donating your time and great energy!
It’s been busy after school, too, with our Soccer Club, Girls on the Run, Drama Club, Adventure Club & First Lego League meeting each week.
Hard to believe, but there are just 4.5 weeks left of school, and these last weeks are jam-packed with many activities and events. Please see below for several of those important dates. Information about other classroom-related activities will be shared by the classroom teachers. Looking forward to some wonderful adventures as we close out the 2016/17 Year.

May Flowers…at last!
It was wonderful to welcome back everyone on Monday following April Vacation. We surprised the students with some fun additions to our outdoor space. From a 4-square court to hopscotch, basketball to outdoor chalk boards. The students have really enjoyed the new outdoor games and are SO appreciative to have the donations of balls, hula-hoops and more from our wonderful families. Again our sincere thanks! We have also purchased a few more picnic tables and soccer goals…slowly our outside space is taking shape!
This past week was National Teacher Appreciation Week and our parents spoiled us! Rachel Marziano & Lisa Zonfrillo masterminded a week full of amazing activities from massages by MFCS mom Julia Soto, to Smoothie and Salad Bars. We are so deeply appreciative of everything shared this week and feel both loved and appreciated! Thank you!!!

Happy Earth Day!
While everyone is looking forward to April Vacation, we certainly have managed to accomplish a lot this week!
This week we celebrated a Service Learning Project organized by our 6th Year Students. Kindness Week provided staff, students and visitors the chance participate in acknowledging acts and words of kindness shared here at School. Some of the most touching notes about kindness will be displayed at our 2017 Leadership Fundraising Breakfast on May 2nd, the MFCS Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year which brings together members of the greater Manchester area to celebrate and support our School.

Spring…finally has sprung!
At last, the warm weather has arrived! I think it is safe to say, snow days for this year are a thing of the past! And with the start of spring come some new and exciting projects and programs.
No Act of Kindness is Ever Wasted!
Open your heart to the 6th Year’s next service learning project – Kindness Week! Stop by to see the kindness tree which will grow leaves of kind acts and words collected from everyone in our community. Did you witness or overhear kind words or acts? Were you part of sharing kindness and empathy? Add your note to the box which sits beside the poll near the tree. We look forward to seeing our tree blossom!
