Snow, Shovel, Repeat…

Just as you were reading the newsletter last Friday, our Upper Elementary Dance Committee along with their helpers and chaperones were preparing for the Winter Dance. Fun was had by all…enjoy some photographs from the evening down below!

This week has been a very challenging one given the storms we have endured. For the first time since we opened our doors in 2012, we took the unusual step of canceling school for Thursday BEFORE Manchester did on Wednesday night. To be sure everyone knew the plan, we posted on WMUR and sent out a school-wide alert via our student information system – ALMA – at about 9pm. Most unfortunately, our alert got tied up the ALMA system’s malfunction along with several other schools’ messages. We at MFCS and those at ALMA send their apologies to our MFCS community for the inconvenience of the late night and repeated notifications. Please be aware, we will ONLY utilize that system for emergencies or for situations when our schedule does not match Manchester School District’s schedule. If you want to review your alert setting (text or call), please log in to ALMA and visit your personal account settings.

Gonna Dance the Night Away…

Looking forward to dancing the night away at our Annual Upper Elementary Dance tonight! The Dance Committee has worked hard on the decorations and other event plans. Sending thanks in advance to our parent and staff volunteers for helping to make it a great night! Special shout out to DJ RonDMC (MFCS Uncle) for donating his services!

Thanks to all who shared some serious warmth with our neighbors as part of our Winter Coat Drive! We collected 66 coats which have been sent to New Horizons for distribution to their homeless clients. What a wonderful show of community support!

We are thrilled to announce that a group of Mill Falls students are working together to launch our student newspaper. They have named the paper, The Mill Falls Roots: Digging Deeper. The Editorial Team, made up of 5th & 6th graders, is hard at work, creating structures and editing procedures, defining the newspaper’s departments, editorial roles, and learning the elements involved in newspaper production. The group of 10 students recently began meeting weekly during school hours and are working beautifully together to kick off this new and exciting project. The students are guided and supported by Meryl & Colleen L. Stay tuned for more details as the project develops.

Continental Travelers!

What a wonderful morning we had here at school. Thanks SO very much to all the families and friends who joined us for an exploration of the work created during theAll-School Study of North America!

Students created dioramas, brochures, board games and more! The children were so excited to share their work with our visitors and later in the morning, they moved room-to-room to view the projects in each classroom.

Congrats to all of our hard-working students who employed their imaginations and great senses of humor and adventure in their study of North America. As always, a special shout out to our amazing teaching staff who gently guide our students toward success! Please enjoy some pictures from today in our Montessori in Motion section down below.

Thanks to so many of you for the wonderful donations of healthy food you have been bringing to school. Susanne has been able to distribute the fantastic variety of items to our food-insecure families, bringing smiles and an extra skip in the steps of the those kiddos as they head home, backpacks filled with food delivered with your love and support!

Thanks to all who have so generously donated gently worn coats of all sizes and colors. If you have anything you’d like to have included in the coat drive, but haven’t yet, please be sure to bring it to school by Monday!

The classrooms are buzzing with hard working children who returned from vacation energized!

We are looking forward to sharing some of the work generated recently during the All-School Study of North America. Please save the date – January 27th. We will welcome parents/guardians and friends to visit our classrooms from 9-9:30am. Plan to come in before then for a coffee/tea bar to enjoy time together as the children set up their classrooms.

Meanwhile, our Upper Elementary students are preparing for an Upper Elementary Dance scheduled for February 3rd from 6-8pm. This is being organized by students with supervision by Ms. Colleen, our Lead Teacher in the Zion Room. More details to follow.

Thank you(!) to Hind and Intisar for once again spoiling us with an incredible spread of delicious and beautiful food at this month’s Professional Development/Staff Planning Day earlier this week. Your special delivery was so appreciated by staff – it kept us well-fed, alert, and full of great energy throughout the afternoon.

Peace, Love & PJ’s!

What a wonderful week we’ve had here at school, orchestrated by our dedicated staff and supported by so many parent volunteers. The children have explored the many festivals of light celebrated by cultures near and far during this time of year. Studies, followed by games and crafts, brought the holidays to life here at Mill Falls this December.

Our talented, committed and nurturing staff works hard every day to support and challenge our students and one another. It is a pleasure and an honor to lead this group of educators. This week our families have shared so much love with the team here in recognition of their hard work. For that, we share a simple, but deeply felt, thank you!

Oh the Weather Outside…

Wow, winter was slow to arrive but sure has been busy this week! Thanks to all for being extra careful in the parking lot after snow falls and be on the lookout for icy spots. A reminder to always check WMUR for cancelations or delayed openings.

Please keep in mind, if there is a Morning Weather Delay:

* There is no BeforeCare;
* There is no Kindergarten.
* Kinder AfterCare begins at noon; Kinder AfterCare students may not take the bus to school on delay days, as their classroom will not be open to students until noon.

We are looking forward to next week – there will be time spent on continued study of winter traditions, an after schoolChoir Concert (see below for details), and Pajama Day on our half-day Friday. Sounds like we are in for more snow over the weekend. Be safe and have a fun and relaxing few days.

Productive & Busy Week!

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our annual Movie Night In, Parents’ Night Out event last Friday. Several MFCS staff members volunteered to run the evening during which parents drop off their children, many clad in PJ’s and carrying pillows and sleeping bags, for a movie night held here at school. After drop off, parents then set off for a relaxing night, sans children. The group of well over 60 children and attending staff gathered in our common space and settled in to watch Finding Dory. Popcorn for the event was donated by Cinemagic – special thanks to former MFCS Foundation Board member and MFCS Friend, Mark Adam and his movie theater team for their donation of an ENORMOUS bag of popcorn!

This is the final call for signing up for the 2017 Ski Club. Please see the box below for additional details. If you are interested you MUST sign up by December 15th.
